Олег КОСТРОВ - российский музыкант, создатель таких проектов, как НОЖ ДЛЯ FRAU MULLER и Supersonic Future. Он известен как композитор и музыкант в России, Германии, Великобритании и Японии. КОСТРОВ - один из немногих современных российских музыкантов, которым удалось вызвать продолжительный резонанс на Западе.
Олег КОСТРОВ известен по музыке к ряду театральных проектов и перфомансов - многие из них были созданы в сотрудничестве с известным дизайнером Андреем БАРТЕНЕВЫМ (работавшим с Брайаном ИНО, Пако РАБАННОМ, Эндрю Логаном). Одним из таких совместных проектов стала «Ивонна», сказка, поставленная в 1998 в Новосибирском театре «Красный факел». Яркие, фантастические костюмы БАРТЕНЕВА и волшебные треки КОСТРОВА сделали постановку культурным событием - конечно же, не только в жизни Новосибирска. Основная идея «Ивонны», по словам автора, - использовать музыкальные стили и направления, популярные в разное время, от 30-х до середины 90-х гг… Таким образом, разительно отличаясь друг от друга, все треки вместе образуют общее направление - музыкальный полистилизм.
В 1999 году последовали и другие шоу. Самым ярким стало балетное представление «Snow Queen» в Лондоне, в знаменитом Royal Festival Hall, после которого музыкой Кострова заинтересовалась БЬОРК (см. далее). Удивительная, разнообразная, искрящаяся юмором, трогательная и очень оригинальная музыка Олега КОСТРОВА давно вышла за рамки перфоманса. Подтверждением тому стало издание музыки «Ивонны» в 1999 году в Германии на лейбле Edition Sora (www.stora.de) . Пластинка получила отличные отклики в немецкой прессе, и удостоилась самых высоких оценок в рецензиях (4-5 звезд). Реакция меломанов и музыкальной прессы оказалась настолько активной и положительной, что звукозаписывающей компании пришлось допечатывать тираж. Следом последовал виниловый диск с бонус треками ИВОННЫ и музыки к слледующей работе с Бартеневым - перформансом СНЕЖНАЯ КОРОЛЕВА, представленным Бартеневым в Лондоне.
Летом 2000 года Олег КОСТРОВ совершил клубный тур по Германии, который оказался весьма успешным. Одним из самых удачных стало выступление на знаменитом немецком фестивале «Battery park» в Кельне, где артист выступал на одной сцене с такими звездами электронной сцены, как MOUSE ON MARS, JIMMY TENOR, STEREOTOTAL и др. А осенью 2000 года на ЛЕГКИХ состоялся российский релиз «Ивонны», по достоинству оцененный уже отечественной критикой.Затем последовала череда альбомов на Legkie, SolnzeRecords и японсокм лейбле Vroom Sound а также участие на двух десятках сборников как в России и так и за рубежом в Австралии,Германии,Чехии, Японии и уж не упомню где еще…

In Russia, Kostrow is widely known. On the one hand, he is one half of Messer Fur Frau Muller, which has been awarded «best band 1998» by Ptjutsch, Moskow’s most famous music-culture magazin. Their latest album «Allo Superman» has been sold more than 1000 times just in St. Petersburg. On the other hand, Kostrow is known for his several theatre- and performance-projects. For most of them, he composed and arranged the music,while cooperating with the Russian designer Bartenew (who has worked with Brian Eno, Paco Rabanne, Andrew Logan).One such project is Iwona - a fairy-tale which is performed by children.The colourful and lively costumes by Bartenew and the congenially colourfuland lively pieces of music by Kostrow are equally important here. Iwona was performed for the first time in association with the Goethe-Institute in Nowosibirsk. Other shows followed, for example in London. But Kostrow’s music for Iwona can easily stand on its own, even without thetheatre-play. It is beautiful, miraculous, full of humor and variety, is sweeping, ingenious and highly original. Kostrow chose to use most of the musical styles of the past fifty years when he composed the pieces for Iwona (including disco, mambo, psychedelic). One can always tell the style as well as Kostrow’s revision of it. Nevertheless, the collection of the pieces gives a rather well-rounded impression. The present CD includes all of the music for Iwona. The result is an album which is unusually united and conceptually convincing.
«Der Sack und das Messer» from Iwona has already appeared on Storage-compilation which was released in spring 1999. The piece has been a favourite among its listeners, was multiply played on the radio, and explicitly praised by journalists who recommended the compilation. The German music-magazine «Flyer» for example announced that the Russian bands and most of all Kostrow («extremely great!») - would be able to trigger an «East-European hype».
The musical East is only slowly being explored. Oleg Kostrow is from Russia, where he is at home both in the club- and arts- scene of Moskow and St. Petersburg. He is an exceeding master of the sampling-technique, and as to his originality and imaginative power, he can easily be compared with an electronic pioneer like Aphex Twin. Kostrow’s music is entirely electronic, playful, happy, and sexy. It works like easy-listening, but it is full of side-ways, -traps, and -views. The latest release on storage records, called Snow Queen (after H.C. Andersen’s fairy-tale of the same name), is the music for a theatre- and performance-project by the Russian designer Bartenev. Its world premiere was at the beginning of this year in London’s Royal Festival Hall, where it was celebrated for Bartenew’s unique costumes and stage-sets, the perfect but nevertheless chaotic production, and not-to-forget Kostrow’s music. The music by itself sets free a stream of pictures, it is full of hysteria and psychedelic crazyness. For the first time Kostrow has used many samples from (mostly Russian) classical music, which add enormous warmth. They are accompanied by often cool, abstract and strangely excentric drum-patterns, bearing driving strength and surprising ideas. On the vinyl’s B-side there are more pieces which were written for the children’s theatre-play Iwona. They were not published on Kostrow’s previous CD-release of the same name (storage secret sounds 001), because they belong into the clubs and not the living-rooms.
