He attended Richmond upon Thames College and later the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Both his parents work in the film industry, and Anderson himself has acted professionally since childhood. His skills include photography, guitar and gymnastics. His father is actor Miles Anderson. He lived in a boathouse for some time.
Anderson has worked in film, television and on the stage at the Chichester Festival Theatre. He appeared in Copying Beethoven, playing Ludwig van Beethoven’s nephew, and in Across the Universe as Max, an American teenager drafted into the Vietnam War. He starred as Henry Austen, Jane Austen’s older brother in Becoming Jane. Anderson also starred as Joy Division bass player Peter Hook in Anton Corbijn’s 2007 movie Control. He has several projects set for 2008, such as «Elliot» in Three Words and a Star, «Mathias» in The Ruins, «Donnie» in High Life, and to star in Talking with Dog, for which his character’s name has yet to be released. He was the fan pick for the person to play Kurt Cobain in the bio-epic Heavier Than Heaven, due to his strikingly similar appearance to Cobain and his ability to sing shown in Across the Universe
