Bubbling with energy, their songs come laden with vocal hooks, tight rhythms, pure pop melodies and enchanting electro twists.
Produced by Fraser Smith and mixed by Jim Lowe (Charlatans) you can hear their love for The Cure, Idlewild and 90’s indie shine through, but they also have the immediacy of current favorites like The Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers.
Despite their name (which comes from all members being born during those cold winter months) WinterKids music has the optimism of spring, and the sweet promise of summer. The band has embraced the possibilities of self-promotion with a similar fervour. Their label Little House is named after their rehearsal space, which also doubles up as lead vocalist James Snider’s bedroom. The band also runs a hugely popular night, ‘Indie Go-Go’, in Guildford to fund their recording costs.
Using this DIY ethos and by taking advantage of the myspace explosion, WinterKids has been selling personally gift-wrapped bundles of their latest release to fans as far away as Japan. Closer to home they have also caught the attention of Steve Lamacq, who has been championing them on his show and even picked WinterKids as his favourite new band for his slot on US station KCRW.
WinterKids formed when lead vocalist James (20) met Tom Downer (21, Bass), Bradley Osborne (21, Guitar) and Chris Muldoon (20, Drums) whilst at college in Peaslake. The final line up was completed when James recruited younger sister Hannah Snider (18, Keyboards).
Playing their debut shows at the heats and final of the National Student Music Awards, supporting Chikinki for both gigs, the band quickly won over fans with their immediate songs and inspiring stage show. Keeping their love of art close to their heart, they pay meticulous attention to all creative elements of the band, from utilizing the Stussy illustrator Zara Wood to design the theatrical logo to directing all their own photo shoots.
