The Re-Up Gang was created in early 2004, during Clipse’s long hiatus between their first and second albums. The group includes Clipse themselves, as well as long-time friend Ab-Liva of Major Figgas and fellow Philadelphia native Sandman. Pusha T is credited with founding the group, and was responsible for enlisting the help of mixtape DJ Clinton Sparks to put together their first mixtape in an ongoing series, We Got It 4 Cheap: Vol. 1.
The group is signed to Clipse’s own record label imprint, Re-Up Records. While a Re-Up Gang album is planned, no specifics have been released due to Clipse’s legal issues with Jive Records
Recently, the group has announced that they will in fact release an album on Koch Records. The album, titled The Clipse Presents: The Re-Up Gang, is set to be released August 5, 2008 and will feature nine brand new songs and three unreleased remixes from We Got It 4 Cheap Vol. III. Rapper Pusha T said:
«Everything happens for a reason. We put out the We Got It 4 Cheap series on our own for the streets and that helped keep us visible and build the Re-Up name as an entity…this time, [our manager] Tony Draper got with [Koch General Manager] Alan Grunblatt to put together an official album with new music and let Koch Records do what they do best. This release gives us something fresh in the marketplace to reward Re-Up fans while we continue to work on the Clipse album.»
Pusha-T Later confirmed on December 1, 2008 that the Re-Up Gang is still active now with only Clipse and Ab-Liva.
The Clipse, or one half of the Re-Up Gang has announced that the drop date for the groups debut album, Clipse Presents: Re-Up Gang, will be on August 5th 2008. Although the album will first become available on the online music store iTunes on July 29th. According to an interview on September 9 with hiphopdx.com the Sandman aka Sandcannnon stated the Re-up gang’s latest album has been mishandled. Sandman is now pursuing a solo career, though, there is no animosity between him and the remaining three members. On the contrary, the split was very amiable. Sandman and Liva still remain in close contact as they always have. Sandman stated he will «always be a Re-Up Gang member».
Liva is currently working on his album (TBA 09) and his mixtape which is said to drop in late January. In addition, he has still been writing for Dr. Dre’s new album, the infamous Detox.
The Clipse on the other hand are finishing work on their fourth studio album, Til The Casket Drops, which features production from The Neptunes (Pharrell & Chad), Sean C & LV, Kanye West, The Runners, The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, T.H.X., Bink and Dame Grease. Swizz Beatz is also a producer sought after for the project, though no work has come about yet.
