The Deadly Nightshade Botanical Society began in earnest in August of 2007. With and without a line up, the music was composed and prepared to the point that we’re at now. Erica has been feverishly working on melodies and learning the songs and we’ve finished all but two songs on bass. We really are quite close.
Some additional history would have to go back years and years when I first started working with Robert from Abney Park. The fateful aspect of everything that you hear from both bands, in my opinion, stems from the loss of our drummer. That nudged us both toward in a ‘goth’ direction which in turn allowed the progression to Steampunk.
Musically, I was most inspired by artists such as Azam Ali and Dead Can Dance though I suppose that as I listen back, I don’t hear those projects sneaking through so much anymore. I can say that I was listening to both extensively at the time but maybe the Rammstein thrown in for good measure corrupted everything into the heavier, darker montage we have now. I had hoped for a sort of otherworldly feel that would give people a hard time to see exactly where I was coming from without alienating an audience.
The result in my opinion is a fresh set of music put contributed to by my very talented friends and given a boost to something I hope everyone can enjoy. Please check back for more info as we have the chance to fill it out!
